Asleep At The Wheel, de langlopende en invloedrijke western-swingband, viert het 50 jarig bestaan met een nieuw album. De toepasselijke titel “Half A Hundred Years” komt uit op 1 oktober en bevat een aantal ster-gastoptredens.

The Wheel preview van het aankomende album met het titelnummer, is nu uitgebracht. Verheven door uitbundige blazers en de lijzige bariton van zanger Ray Benson, is het nummer het ultieme roadnummer: “I’ve been on the road for a half honderd years”, pocht Ray Benson.

Op het album “Half A Hundred Years” staan 19 nummers en bevat een aantal samenwerkingen van de A-lijst: George Strait, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Lee Ann Womack en Bill Kirchen duiken allemaal op. Willie Nelson, die samen met Asleep At The Wheel voor Willie And The Wheel uit 2009 speelde, verschijnt op niet minder dan drie nummers. Hij verdient ook een shout-out in de titelsong. “I might catch up to Willie one of these days”, zegt Ray Benson ad libs, als eerbetoon aan de onvermoeibare road warrior.
